Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has called for issue-based campaigns ahead of the 2027 general elections. Speaking at the 2026 All Nigeria Editors' Conference in Enugu, he said candidates should focus on policies and performance rather than insults and personal attacks. Obi stated that he would never abuse President Bola Tinubu or any other political office holder, adding that respect for public office does not prevent him from criticising policies or questioning government performance. He made the remarks against the backdrop of controversy over Anambra State's debt, saying he could disagree with Governor Chukwuma Soludo or Tinubu without resorting to personal attacks.
