Communities in Moyamba, Kailahun, and Falaba districts in Sierra Leone are leading efforts to end violence against women and girls by establishing community-owned safe spaces under the Spotlight Initiative Programme. Supported by the European Union and the United Nations, the safe spaces were launched by the Spotlight Initiative and the Ministry of Gender and Children's Affairs. They will provide secure and confidential environments where women and girls can access networks, information, psychosocial support, referral services, and livelihood opportunities. A handover ceremony brought together district councils, traditional authorities, community leaders, government officials, UN agencies, and civil society organizations to demonstrate collective commitment to the safety and wellbeing of women and girls.
