The Pentagon wants ultra-precise clocks that could help troops fight without GPS

DARPA has been testing a new generation of ultra-precise compact clocks that could serve as a backup for military systems when GPS signals are jammed or spoofed. GPS relies on precise timing, and its weak satellite signals are vulnerable to disruption. The agency hopes to integrate these clocks into aircraft, radars, and other equipment to enable new military capabilities. According to Dana Goward of the Resilient Navigation and Timing Foundation, positioning, navigation, and timing are the core services provided by GPS.
