Nigeria's Super Eagles began their 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying campaign with a 2-1 comeback victory over Madagascar in their Group L opener. Madagascar took an early lead in the 16th minute through E. Kari, who converted a pass from R. Ponti. Nigeria equalised in first-half added time when debutant George Ilenikhena scored, assisted by Alex Iwobi. Moses Usor then scored the winning goal in the 65th minute, with Semi Ajayi providing the assist, giving Eric Chelle's side three points from their opening fixture.
