The Advocacy for Alleged Witches (AfAW) has called on the Zamfara State government to release and compensate Samalia Bala, who was jailed by the Upper Sharia Court in Tsafe for alleged witchcraft and juju. Bala's case dates back to 2020 when a student's illness led to accusations against him; he was later found to have sickle cell disease. He has been imprisoned three times for the same alleged offence, most recently since June 2026. AfAW argues that the charge has no basis in law and demands his immediate release.
