Ruby Igwe writes that Africa's industrialisation and digital transformation are reshaping what it means to be ready for work, with artificial intelligence, data analytics, and digital tools influencing how work gets done across sectors. She argues that instead of asking whether young Africans are ready for the future, the bigger question is whether the systems around them are ready to match their ambition. Across the continent, young people are already acquiring digital and entrepreneurial skills, launching businesses, and participating in the gig economy. She notes that since 2021, ALX has trained more than 350,000 young people across Africa, pointing to the scale of participation.
