John Cardinal Onaiyekan, Archbishop Emeritus of Abuja, has questioned whether Nigeria's 27 years of uninterrupted democracy have truly benefited ordinary Nigerians. Speaking at the All Nigeria Editors Conference, he noted that despite regular elections, the people remain at the periphery of governance. Onaiyekan, 82, shared his perspective as a witness to Nigeria's political evolution from colonial rule to civilian administration.
