Bala Wunti, CEO of the World Energy Council Nigeria, has called on the Federal Government to develop the country's 44 critical minerals into factories, jobs, and sustainable economic opportunities. He warned against repeating the crude oil model of exporting raw materials and importing finished products at higher prices. Wunti spoke at the 2026 Concordia Annual Summit in New York, participating in a panel titled 'Rare Currency: Critical Minerals in a Shifting Global Economy,' which examined America's dependence on imported minerals and China's dominance in global mineral processing. The former NNPC Chief Upstream Investment Officer emphasized that Nigeria must move beyond exporting mineral tonnage and build domestic processing and manufacturing capacity.
