The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has initiated the validation of a draft national policy on intellectual and developmental disabilities (IDD). A two-day stakeholders' workshop, involving government agencies, disability organizations, development partners, professionals, families, and caregivers, aims to create a practical framework for implementing the rights and support needs of persons with IDD across Nigeria. The Executive Secretary of the commission, Ayuba Gufwam, emphasized that the policy is necessary to move beyond legal commitments and ensure full societal participation for persons with IDD. The draft policy will provide a coordinated framework covering the needs of persons with IDD throughout their lives.
