Sidya Toure, former prime minister and leading opposition figure in Guinea, has died in Paris at the age of 81. He led the Union of Republican Forces (UFR) from exile in Ivory Coast. The UFR was among 40 political parties dissolved in March under the country's longtime strongman Mamady Doumbouya. Toure had been hospitalized in Paris for about two weeks after falling ill in Abidjan. He had lived in Abidjan since leaving Guinea following the September 2021 military coup.
