Senator Victor Umeh, representing Anambra Central Senatorial District, has called on the federal government to declare his zone an ecological disaster zone following erosion and flood menace. Parts of Awka, the capital of Anambra State, recently experienced severe flooding and erosion devastation from torrential rainfall, leading to the drowning of a six-year-old schoolboy and the caving in of about three houses into erosion gullies, displacing occupants. Umeh made the call at the weekend when he visited the family of the drowned schoolboy and the scene of the erosion devastation. He said he felt sad that Anambra Central Senatorial District is under serious erosion menace and flooding.
