Five miners were killed and two others injured when gunmen ambushed them at about 1 p.m. on Saturday while they were mining at Marit village in Barkin Ladi Local Government Area of Plateau State. The attack threw the community into mourning and heightened concerns over the safety of residents and miners in the area. The spokesman of the Berom Youth Moulders-Association, Rwang Tengwong, confirmed the incident and lamented the killing of the miners. Tengwong said the victims were ambushed at Marit, adding that five persons lost their lives while two others sustained injuries, and called on security agencies to urgently protect communities and prevent further attacks.
