The Enugu State Local Government Election held on Saturday experienced late arrival of electoral materials and low voter turnout. A News Agency of Nigeria correspondent monitoring the election observed that materials started arriving at polling centres in Enugu metropolis as late as 9:45 a.m. Polling centres in areas such as Timber Market, Maryland, Independence Layout, Community Primary School, Ugwuaji, and Abakpa Nike recorded poor voter turnout. Former Chairman of Enugu South Local Government Area, Chief Chiemezie Nkwuo, expressed optimism that polling centres would be filled by noon, noting that some residents who came early left to attend to domestic issues and businesses. One resident, Mr Dominic Agu, said he did not vote because he believed the election had already been concluded, with only candidates from the ruling All Progressives Congress participating.
