Governor Seyi Makinde of Oyo State has urged Nigerians to view the 2027 presidential election as a contest between the ruling All Progressives Congress and the Nigerian people. Speaking in Katsina, he said the election would not be a contest among smaller parties such as APM, ADC or NDC but rather APC versus Nigerians. Although Makinde is the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement, he is deliberately framing the election as a referendum on the party controlling the Federal Government. The approach is described as a potentially useful calculation for a candidate whose party lacks a national political machine.
