In 2017, the sports ministry, then led by Solomon Dalung, issued guidelines for elections into sports federations, instructing those with their own constitutions to organize their elections. The Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), which had a constitution approved by the Nigeria Olympic Committee and FIBA, planned its election in Kano. However, the ministry reversed its decision and organized a separate election in Abuja, resulting in two boards for the NBBF. The article calls for allowing basketball to breathe again.
