Yamal: I don’t play football for money

Barcelona and Spain winger Lamine Yamal has said his passion for football, rather than financial rewards, goals or assists, remains the main reason he plays the game. In an interview with The Guardian, the teenager explained that he most enjoys football when he can express his creativity, contribute to his team and create opportunities for teammates. He said he does not want individual statistics to become the main focus of his career, adding that an excessive obsession with goals and assists could take away from his enjoyment of the game. Yamal also recalled an encounter with Argentine legend Lionel Messi, during which he approached the former Barcelona star to express his admiration.
