David Heinemeier Hansson, creator of the Ruby on Rails web framework and head of software company 37signals, announced that his firm has stopped writing code by hand. Speaking at the Rails World keynote, Hansson said engineers at 37signals now only hand-write code when an AI agent is unable to produce the desired result. He described handwritten code as an "exceptional state" and said the new rule reflects what is already happening in the company.
