The Kano State Government has suspended all Durbar processions and horse-riding activities within the Kano metropolis. The restriction was announced on Sunday after an emergency meeting of the State Security Council at the Government House in Kano. According to a statement signed by Sunusi Bature Dawakin Tofa, Director-General of Media and Publicity at Government House, the council resolved to suspend the activities as a precautionary measure to preserve public order and prevent possible loss of lives and damage to property. The government said security assessments indicated significant mobilisation of supporters in connection with the planned activities, raising concerns over possible confrontations and a breakdown of law and order.
