Bill Gates said in an interview on NBC's "Meet the Press" that artificial intelligence will develop in two distinct phases. He described the first phase as an adjustment period of roughly 20 years in which AI has the potential to address problems such as the high cost of living and expensive healthcare but cannot yet do so. Gates noted that this period will also change the job market and could empower criminals if adequate safeguards are not put in place. He said the second phase, which combines AI with humanoid robots, would lead to what he called an "era of abundance."
