Potiskum: Yobe Emir bags FLAN Fellowship

The Emir of Potiskum, Alhaji Umaru Bubaram Ibn Wuriwa Bauya, OON, has been conferred with the Fellowship of the Linguistic Association of Nigeria (FLAN). The honour was bestowed at the 37th Annual Conference of the Association (CLAN 2026) held at the National Open University of Nigeria (NOUN), Jabi, Abuja. The conference, organised by NOUN in collaboration with the British Council, had the theme “Language Policy, Power and Practice in Multilingual Nigeria” and attracted thousands of scholars and language experts. Vice-Chancellor of NOUN, Professor Uduma Oji Uduma, who chaired the occasion, said the Emir was honoured with the Association’s highest recognition for his contribution to the preservation of indigenous languages, cultural heritage, education and peacebuilding. He cited the annual 11-11 Ngizim Day cultural festival in Potiskum as one of the Emir’s initiatives promoting language and culture. The Emir thanked the association for the honour and pledged to sustain support for indigenous languages.
