The Super Eagles of Nigeria departed the country on Sunday for Bissau ahead of their next Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2027 qualifier match. The contingent left from the Victor Attah International Airport in Akwa Ibom, Uyo, where the team earlier played and defeated Madagascar 2-1 at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium on Friday. The Super Eagles are set to face Guinea-Bissau, who defeated Tanzania 2-0 in their first match of the series in Group L. Guinea-Bissau top the group on better goal difference ahead of Nigeria. The Super Eagles trained earlier in the morning before coach Eric Chelle and his players were spotted at the airport to board a chartered flight to their West African neighbour’s home later in the afternoon. Nigeria will face the Djurtus, ranked 132nd in the world and 38th in Africa, at the 24th of September National Stadium on Tuesday, 29 September. Guinea-Bissau has met the Super Eagles four times and won once in 2023 during AFCON qualifiers, claiming a shock victory.
