Participants at the ninth Agriculture Summit Africa agreed that Africa must move beyond producing raw commodities to owning processing, storage, trade, and finance to capture value locally. They emphasized that the finance industry must be redesigned to match agriculture's long cycles. Minister of Agriculture and Food Security, Senator Abubakar Kyari, noted that Africa spends over $100 billion annually importing food it can produce. Dele Faseemo of Sterling Bank warned that food security is national security, urging the sector to move from potential to execution.
