The Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC), Dr. Aminu Maida, has stated that 25 years of telecoms revolution in Nigeria has made connectivity a way of life for many Nigerians. Speaking in Lagos at the 2026 eWorld Forum themed 'The GSM Digital Milestones: 25 Years On', Maida noted that the liberalisation of the communications sector began with the National Telecommunications Policy of 2000, leading to the launch of GSM services in 2001 when there were fewer than 400,000 connected telephone lines and a teledensity of 0.4 per cent. He added that teledensity now stands at 90 per cent, with over 195 million active subscribers across the country.
