The ECOWAS Parliament has called on member states to strengthen the implementation and financing of climate policies to address environmental degradation, population displacement, and insecurity in the region. The call was made at the end of the 2026 Second Extraordinary Session held on Saturday, following a week-long meeting that assessed the impact of climate change. Speaker of the Parliament, Honourable Memounatou Ibrahima, emphasized that the institution's credibility depends on translating decisions into concrete actions with measurable impact. She also noted that the Parliament will continue to focus on regional priorities such as infrastructure, transport, energy, peace and security, and greater participation of women in politics.
