President Bola Ahmed Tinubu's extended stay abroad has sparked debate over constitutional requirements for transmitting power to the vice president when away for more than 21 days. The president, who was initially scheduled to return on September 20, extended his working vacation by a week but did not return as promised. The Centre for Democracy and Development (CDD) has called on Nigerians to seek judicial interpretation of the prolonged absence, with CDD-West Africa Director Dr. Dauda Garuba noting that citizens have the right to challenge actions they believe violate the Constitution.
