The Nigeria Customs Service has revealed that factors such as marital status of smugglers, bad road networks across international borders, and host communities' dependence on smuggling have fuelled petroleum smuggling along the nation's borders. The service noted that smugglers use cross-border marriages to evade detection. Experts have raised fresh concerns and demanded litre-by-litre tracking of petroleum products.
