Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi met with Alberto Calderon, CEO of AngloGold Ashanti, on the sidelines of the opening of the Egypt Mining Forum 2026. The meeting was attended by Prime Minister Dr. Moustafa Madbouly, Minister of Petroleum and Mineral Resources Eng. Karim Badawi, AngloGold Ashanti Chief of Corporate Affairs Stewart Bailey, and Hoda Ahmed El-Askalani, President of AngloGold Ashanti Egypt. According to presidential spokesman Ambassador Mohamed El-Shennawy, El-Sisi expressed appreciation for the strategic partnership with AngloGold Ashanti, the operator of the Sukari Gold Mine, and emphasized the state's support for the company's investments in Egypt. The President also expressed Egypt's interest in elevating cooperation with the company beyond the operation of the Sukari mine.
