The Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority to continue granting petroleum product import licences to Matrix Energy, AA Rano, and AYM Shafa. Justice Inyang Ekwo ruled on Monday that the authority's refusal to issue the licences was in direct non-compliance with the Petroleum Industry Act. The marketers' lawyers, Raji Ahmed, SAN, and Chris Ekemezie, Esq., had sought a declaration that the PIA does not ban petroleum product importation or prohibit the NMDPRA from granting or renewing licences for eligible importers. The judge observed that the case was founded on the authority's refusal to issue the licences.
