Nigeria began their Group L campaign with a 2-1 comeback win over Madagascar in Uyo, while Guinea-Bissau secured a 2-0 away victory over Tanzania. Both teams have three points after the opening round, with Guinea-Bissau leading the group on goal difference. Tanzania already has a guaranteed place at the 2027 AFCON as a co-host, leaving Nigeria, Guinea-Bissau and Madagascar to compete for the group's only remaining qualifying spot.
