At 63 and 71, our friends are becoming grandparents. We're raising a kindergartener.

Barb Higgins, 63, a part-time CrossFit coach from Massachusetts, underwent IVF and gave birth to her son, Jack, at the age of 57 in March 2021. Jack recently started kindergarten, and Higgins is sometimes mistaken for his grandmother, which she brushes off, saying people in her community support her choice and that she has no regrets. She said her town is close-knit and she already knows many parents at school pick-up and drop-off, and that while some children seem curious about why she looks older than their parents, Jack does not register that she is in her 60s. One child remarked aloud that she looked like a grandmother, and Higgins replied that she is 63 and of course looks like a grandmother.
