Residents of Osogbo, Osun State, were thrown into panic on Monday after a food outlet allegedly operating an investment scheme shut its premises, leaving hundreds of customers worried about funds paid for food supplies. The outlet, Global Food Initiative, began operations in early August around the Odi-Olowo area, offering food items at prices significantly below market rates. Participants paid in advance for items like 50kg bags of rice and vegetable oil, with investments ranging from N50,000 to as much as N50 million. Concerns heightened after a radio presenter described the scheme as fraudulent during a live broadcast and warned residents against participating.
