The Northern States Christian Elders Forum has said Nigeria cannot claim true independence while citizens remain afraid to travel, farmers cannot safely access their fields and families live under the threat of violence. In a statement by its Chairman, Elder Sunday Oibe, the forum said the 66th Independence Anniversary should go beyond ceremonies to address insecurity, economic hardship, unemployment and divisions. NOSCEF noted that Nigeria is endowed with enormous human and natural resources but has yet to translate them into decent living conditions for millions of citizens. The forum identified insecurity and ethnic divisions among the challenges confronting the country.
