The African Action Congress (AAC) has filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Abuja seeking a declaration that President Bola Tinubu breached Section 145(1) of the 1999 Constitution by travelling to Europe for a month-long vacation without transmitting a written notice to the National Assembly. The party argued that the Constitution mandates the President to transmit a written declaration to the Senate President and the Speaker of the House of Representatives before proceeding on vacation for any number of days. The defendants in the suit, marked FHC/ABJ/CS/2358/2026, include the Attorney General of the Federation, the Senate President, the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the National Assembly. According to the plaintiff, Tinubu left Nigeria for Europe on August 30, 2026, and remained there as of the time of filing.
