Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan (PDP, Kogi Central) has called for improved remuneration, welfare, and working conditions for doctors and other health workers to address maternal mortality and retain medical professionals, especially in rural areas. She made the call on Monday at the ongoing 'Unfinished' event organised by Ward-C in collaboration with the National Human Rights Commission in Abuja, which focused on maternal health, women's rights, and reproductive choices. The senator said tackling maternal mortality requires more than building healthcare facilities, stressing the need for adequate personnel, equipment, and support systems. She added that health workers in underserved communities need adequate pay, functional equipment, essential medicines, reliable electricity, and conducive working environments.
