The UK government is reviewing plans to extend the wait for permanent residency to 10 years for foreign workers, including Nigerians. Home Secretary Shabana Mahmood indicated a possible rethink following pressure from Labour MPs and trade unions. Mahmood said the government would seek a position balancing fairness for legal migrants and British citizens. Permanent residence, or indefinite leave to remain (ILR), allows eligible migrants to live, work, and study in the UK without a time limit.
