Nigeria seeks collaboration to eliminate rabies in 2030, plans mass dog vaccination

The Federal Ministry of Livestock Development has called for stronger collaboration among government institutions, communities, development partners, the private sector, and other stakeholders to accelerate efforts to eliminate rabies in Nigeria by 2030. Dr. Samuel Akawu Anzaku, Chief Veterinary Officer of Nigeria and Director of Veterinary Public Health and Epidemiology, made the call during activities marking World Rabies Day. The ministry plans to implement mass dog vaccination as part of the elimination strategy. The call emphasizes the need for a multi-sectoral approach to achieve the 2030 target.
