A Federal High Court in Abuja has ruled that the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority's refusal to issue licenses to oil marketing companies for fuel importation is against the Petroleum Industry Act. The court ordered the NMDPRA to continue granting petroleum products import licences to three major oil marketers: Matrix Energy, AA Rano, and AYM Shafa. The judgment was delivered in a suit filed by the three oil firms, with the trial judge holding that the NMDPRA's refusal was in direct non-compliance with the PIA. The plaintiffs, represented by a team of lawyers led by Mr Ahmed Raji (SAN), had sought a declaration that the PIA does not outlaw the importation of petroleum products into Nigeria.
