Does Nigeria deserve a permanent seat at the UNSC?

At the 81st United Nations General Assembly in New York, Vice-President Kashim Shettima, speaking on behalf of President Bola Tinubu, called for a reconstitution of the United Nations Security Council to allow two permanent seats for Africa. Shettima said Nigeria demands, in line with the Ezulwini Consensus and the CFTA Declaration, at least two permanent seats for Africa with all the rights and responsibilities of permanent membership, including the veto. He said Nigeria stands ready to assume greater responsibility on the strength of obligations honoured and sacrifices made over decades in the service of peace, citing missions from Liberia and Sierra Leone to Darfur, Mali and The Gambia.
