The average net liquidity in Nigeria's banking system rose to N5.53 trillion in May 2026, a 17.16 percent increase from N4.72 trillion in April 2026. According to the Central Bank of Nigeria's Monthly Economic Report for May 2026, the surge was driven by inflows from maturing CBN bills, bond coupons, and disbursements by the Federation Account Allocation Committee. The financial environment was also influenced by Cash Reserve Ratio maintenance and foreign exchange activities, which helped keep short-term interest rates stable. To manage the excess cash, the CBN aggressively increased its Open Market Operations, offering N3.6 trillion.
