The Akwa Ibom State Government has established a task force to combat illegal mining activities in the state. The Commissioner for Environment, Mr Nsikak Ekong, said many illegal mining sites have been shut down, and noted that some miners operate at night to evade detection. He stated that the task force will intensify tracking of such operations. Additionally, the Commissioner of Police, Akwa Ibom State Command, Baba Mohammed Azare, has directed Area Commanders and Divisional Police Officers to support the crackdown.
