A fire on Monday gutted the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS) Western Marine Command office in Apapa, Lagos, destroying property worth millions of naira, including important documents. The fire reportedly started at about 10:23 am following an electrical surge in the conference room and spread to other sections of the building. Officers on duty attempted to contain the blaze before personnel of the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service arrived at about 10:45 am to join the firefighting operation. The incident occurred shortly after the new Deputy Comptroller of the command, Timothy Jonah, assumed duty. Jonah described the incident as unfortunate and said a committee would be set up to investigate the cause.
