The Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) has urged Parliament to address the monopoly held by a foreign digital number plate manufacturing firm. In a meeting with the Committee on Physical Infrastructure, UMA stated that the monopoly has led to delays, higher costs, and business disruptions. UMA Board Chairperson Richard Mubiru noted that the digital plates, introduced to curb falsified number plates, have not delivered the promised improvements. The government signed a 10-year agreement in 2021 with a Russian-based firm as the sole manufacturer.
