Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi stated that Tehran expects a formal response from the United States on Tuesday regarding its proposal to open the Strait of Hormuz. Araghchi, speaking in New York for the UN General Assembly, said Qatari intermediaries presented ideas and will raise the matter with the American side again before conveying the final US response. He emphasized that the reopening of the strait is contingent upon the fulfillment of certain conditions communicated to the other side. The Strait of Hormuz, a vital shipping route for a fifth of the world's oil and liquefied natural gas, is central to the conflict between the US and Iran that began with US and Israeli strikes on Iran in late February.
