German robotics startup Microagi has hired Animesh Garg, a Georgia Tech professor and former Nvidia researcher, as its chief research officer. Garg will lead work on post-training, adapting general-purpose robotics models into systems capable of performing specific tasks. He is bringing seven members of his research group with him through Microagi's acquisition of a startup the group had been building in stealth. Microagi has raised $55 million and aims to deploy 10 million robots to customers in five years, amid a broader trend of robotics academics launching and joining startups during the physical AI boom.
