The US Department of Education has extended the deadline for student-loan borrowers to enroll in autopay and receive a 1-percentage-point interest rate reduction. The new deadline is December 31, 2026, moved from September 30. The benefit, first announced in June, is temporary and will last through June 30, 2028. Nearly 2 million borrowers have already enrolled since the announcement.
