The Emir of Kano, Alhaji Muhammadu Sanusi II, has raised concerns about the handling of corruption cases in Nigeria, suggesting that political connections can influence their outcomes. In an interview with Channels Television, he questioned whether the continued detention of former Kaduna State governor Nasir El-Rufai is a genuine anti-corruption effort. Sanusi emphasized that legislation alone is insufficient without proper enforcement by investigative and prosecutorial institutions. He alleged that some corruption cases have been dropped due to the defendants' political affiliations or support from influential individuals.
