The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) in Ethiopia transferred 161 persons from Mekelle in Tigray to Semera in Afar on Monday, 28 September. The operation was conducted at the request and with the approval of all relevant authorities, with the ICRC acting as a neutral and independent intermediary. Among those evacuated were Ethiopian Federal Police personnel and their families, Ethiopian Airlines staff and their families, Civil Aviation Security personnel, African Union monitors, and Ethiopian Red Cross Society members. The evacuees were transported by buses marked with the Red Cross emblem and accompanied by ICRC staff. The ICRC stated it will continue to engage with parties to the conflict and remain ready to assist vulnerable people when all parties agree.
