Kenneth Okonkwo, spokesperson for former Vice President Atiku Abubakar, has called on the Presidency to clarify whether President Bola Tinubu transmitted a written declaration to the National Assembly before his recent vacation abroad. In a television interview, Okonkwo disputed the government's characterization of the trip as a "working vacation," arguing that Nigerians deserve a clear account of how presidential duties were handled during Tinubu's absence. He cited Section 145 of the Constitution, which requires the President to transmit a written declaration to the National Assembly when proceeding on vacation or when unable to discharge the functions of his office. Okonkwo asked whether any such letter was sent, noting that under Section 145 the Vice President discharges the President's functions as Acting President.
