Senate President Godswill Akpabio warned political parties and candidates against violence and intimidation ahead of the 2027 general elections, stating that no electoral victory is worth the life of any Nigerian. In his welcome address as the Senate resumed plenary after a two-month recess, he urged politicians to conduct campaigns with honor and ensure the contest does not divide the country. Akpabio noted that the start of campaigns places a responsibility on political actors to present their visions while recognizing that Nigeria will remain after the elections. The Senate also fixed a security summit for October 12 and adjourned plenary to October 13.
