The Senate has extended the implementation period of the capital component of the 2025 Appropriation Act from September 30 to December 31, 2026. This is the fourth extension, aimed at preventing abandonment of ongoing projects and ensuring effective utilization of funds. The extension followed the passage of the Appropriations Repeal and Enactment Act 2025 Amendment Bill 2026. A senator blamed the centralised payment system for slow execution, calling it a 'cork in the wheel' of budget implementation. President Tinubu also seeks passage of the NDDC's 2026 appropriation bill.
